Therapy with me

In modern life, we are encouraged to “outthink” our problems, or to push them away. I take the opposite approach, providing a calm environment in which we can invite our anxiety, dread, depression, stress, grief and whatever else may be under the surface. Sitting with discomfort can be a challenge, so I am here to accompany you and teach you the skills to become resilient and reach your potential.

“We all know the feeling of getting stuck in our heads in an endless loop. Our body opens a new door to real change.”

My background

I now work as a psychotherapist and executive coach with three Masters degrees in Marriage and Family Therapy, Philosophy, and Screenwriting and specialized training in somatic and Jungian approaches.

I have been privileged to live and work in many countries. I was raised in South Africa, then lived in France and England, and eventually settled in Los Angeles in 2015. Previously I worked as a writer, communications strategist, and business owner. Underlying all these experiences is a deep curiosity about people from different cultural backgrounds.

“I believe that science-based and evidence-based perspectives can dovetail with storytelling, creative expression, and spirituality. There is never just one way to view or address a problem.”

Treatment approach

I teach clients how to notice, withstand and work through uncomfortable or overwhelming experiences in the body. Our nervous systems are designed to help us escape danger or push through stress, but staying in those modes day after day can leaving us feeling stuck, depleted or depressed. I help clients approach their moment-to-moment sensations with curiosity and self-compassion. Together, we can learn to make friends with our bodies and work with them, rather than against them.

Our bodies often reveal the truth about what is going on for us psychologically. Past traumas can resurface through fight-or-flight responses, unexpressed emotions can present as headaches or nausea, and unresolved inner conflicts can surface through heart palpitations or twinges – to name just a few. My practice prioritizes these important messages as we understand their role in what a client is facing. From there, we can explore what a client needs to embrace, what they need to let go of, and how they can move forward.

I combine somatic therapy with Jungian depth psychology, where we explore unconscious patterns that underlie our choices or keep returning us to familiar, unhealthy situations. This can involve the creative expression of our inner lives through writing, creating art or dream work. All of these aspects of therapy are accentuated by calming the body and navigating the constant push and pull of our emotions.
