Life can really come at us.
Our problems can tower overhead like the giant waves at Nazaré, or chase us around like the ghosts in Pac-Man.
In the dark moments, our usual coping methods are overwhelmed, and we find ourselves overthinking and reaching for unhealthy choices that usually just make the problem worse.
But if we can reach for an embodiment practice instead (slow breathing, meditation, a hot shower, a walk), something unexpected can happen.
Embodiment truly is a super-skill.
When you "drop in" to the blue zone, you feel the full strength of your body and the full force of your heart. Pain loses its sting, self doubt melts away and aloneness can be appreciated. It's a relief to inhabit your feeling identity that lies below thinking.
When you become connected like this, millions of neural circuits come online. There is literally more of you to feel and so you can actually feel yourself now. This is the state we call “regulated”, which seems a paltry word compared to this exhilarating experience of aliveness!
When this happens, it is common to feel energetically bigger or more robust or sturdy.
Like the Grinch whose heart grew three sizes, we become larger and our problems lose their power over us.
Practice: Somatic Tracking (17 mins)
