Our story

Beyond Psychology Center was founded by psychotherapists Steven and Angie Bradshaw in 2022.

We each had several careers in business in New York, where we met, and in Los Angeles. Steven was an investment banker and marketing strategist and Angie worked in advertising and market research. In each job we inevitably found ourselves grinding down our bodies and souls for profit with little in the way of deep authentic connection, or true purpose.

We then travelled the world together for five years. We refreshed ourselves by rock climbing, sailing and delving into communities in remote places. We then returned to Los Angeles and made visual art for another three years.

Our goal in this wanderschaft period was to reset and find our authentic passion, or ikigai, that could sustain us. What a long and winding road that can be!

Eight years later, we realized that when we gave ourselves enough permission, what we truly wanted to create involved inner growth and developing human potential.

So we became psychotherapists and set about building a healing sanctuary and center of learning that we ourselves could enjoy.

We picked the name Beyond to refer to that which lies beyond our self-conceptions and knowledge, the place where healing and transformation always and inevitably occur.

The name Beyond also represents our quest to move beyond traditional therapy models to find new and innovative approaches that work best to break through blocks and produce significant change quickly.

For us, exciting approaches include SE, EMDR, and IFS, as well as meditation, breathwork, wilderness therapy, plant medicine, group work, bodywork, ecstatic dancing, and sound healing.

We want to locate ourselves on the frontier of the human potential movement, where intelligent and kind humans figure out how to thrive, create and feel deeply.

A healing community

We always disliked traditional therapy models where clients and practitioners are intentionally siloed and never meet each other or form a community.

We believe that healing is a collective effort and that inner work is much more effective if you become part of a community of people doing similar work.

At Beyond, we run retreats, workshops and online groups that facilitate this collective learning and healing.

Our participants tend to be highly creative and highly sensitive humans in creative professional careers or building things in the world.
