Somatic therapy may be right for you if you feel

You may understand your patterns well and still feel stuck in them. That usually means the pattern lives in the body, below the reach of insight alone.

  • Anxious, overwhelmed or always on guard
  • Trapped in racing, repetitive thoughts
  • Stuck, shut down, numb or hopeless
  • Reactive or avoidant in relationships
  • Body symptoms like IBS, migraines, back pain or chronic tension
  • Burned out, even when life looks fine on paper

What clients say

Beyond client

“I met my therapist on a whim at one of the lowest points of my life and have since reached heights of peace, stability and self-advocacy I didn’t think possible.”

Beyond client

“I had such a sense of holding, safety and support that let me feel comfortable, seen and held. I now have some real tools in case I hit potholes out in the world.”

How somatic therapy works

Your nervous system is always in one of three zones. Stress and old overwhelm can leave it stuck in the red or grey zone, where symptoms build no matter how much you think things through.

In sessions, your therapist guides your attention to sensation, emotion and the body’s signals in small, manageable doses. Unprocessed stress gets to complete, and your window of tolerance widens.

Sessions are usually a mix of somatic work and talk therapy. Talking builds safety and context; the somatic work shifts the pattern underneath.

Common questions

How is somatic therapy different from talk therapy?

Talking can circle a problem without shifting it. Somatic therapy slows things down and works with what your nervous system is signaling through sensation, emotion, tension and breath. Most sessions combine both: talk therapy builds understanding, and somatic work shifts the underlying pattern.

Does somatic therapy involve touch?

No. Somatic therapy is a talk-and-awareness practice with no touch. We offer bodywork separately, which is touch-based, for clients who want it.

Do you take insurance?

We work out of network with PPO plans, including Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, Optum and others. You pay at the time of service, we submit the claims, and your insurer reimburses you based on your plan. We can call your insurer to check your coverage. We are not in-network with HMO plans.

How many sessions will I need?

Some clients find 6 to 12 sessions enough to shift things onto a better track. Long-standing patterns can take several months or longer. We’ll give you an honest view in your free consultation.

Is online somatic therapy as effective as in person?

In person gives the most information to work with, but a surprising amount comes through the screen, and online sessions make it easier to keep a weekly rhythm. Many clients mix both.

How do I choose a therapist?

Start with a free consultation with our Care Coordinator, who listens to your situation and suggests the best fit based on personality, location, schedule and approach. You then get a free consultation with the therapist you choose.

Somatic Therapy does not include touch. Bodywork is touch-based. Psychotherapists may work as coaches for clients located in states and countries in which they are not licensed, provided there is no mental health diagnosis. In these cases, they are not working under their psychotherapy license, but are working as a health coach.
